Recognition of French nasal vowels

چکیده
In this article, we shall discuss the general characteristics of french nasal vowels, and then introduce a pole-zero model in the frequency region selected by local optimization of the spectral matching. Lastly we combine the LP all-pole model with this local optimised zero-pole model for the recognition of a data base (325 words) of natural french nasal vowels prononced by thirteen male speakers.

Analysis of Oral and Nasal Vowel Realisation in Northern and Southern French Varieties
We present data on the pronunciation of oral and nasal vowels in northern and southern French varieties. In particular a sharp contrast exists in the fronting of the open /O/ towards [œ] in the North and the denasalisation of nasal vowels in the South. We examine how linguistic changes in progress may affect these vowels, which are governed by the left/right context and bring to light differenc...

متن کاملVelar Movements for Two French Speakers
This study compares velar movements for nasal vowels and consonants; it investigates contextual nasalisation; and it provides new data on how nasalisation is affected by speech rate. Velar position is measured with an electromagnetic articulatograph (EMA) for two French speakers. Our results confirm that (i) nasal vowels are produced with a lower velum height than nasal consonants; (ii) the con...
متن کاملInter-gestural timing in French nasal vowels: A comparative study of (Liège, Tournai) Northern French vs. (Marseille, Toulouse) Southern French
This paper provides a comparative gestural account of nasal vowels in Southern French (Marseille, Toulouse; France) and in Northern French (Liège, Tournai; Belgium). Timing measurements based on acoustic data confirm a different temporal organisation of the gestures between the two regiolects. We also report on statistical comparisons between phonetic events (such as duration of the SF ‘nasal a...
متن کاملFrench nasal vowels spoken in Ha acoustic stu
From an acoustic point of view, the study of nasal vowels is complex. Numerous acoustic properties of French nasal vowels have been deduced by simulation experiments. Few authors have founded their analysis on the observation of laboratory speech. Alternatively, the analyzed vocalic realizations found herein are taken from a corpus of spontaneous speech. The 20–male speakers, recorded are nativ...
